Tempe Officer Stabbed
March 31, 2015
It seems as if stories like this are a dime a dozen in a world where violence shows up all around us. It is always more frightening when it is in our own backyard of Tempe, Arizona.
On the afternoon of March 3rd, Tempe police were called to a domestic violence alert that led to a stabbing in an apartment complex just north of Loop 202. It was as several police officers arrived that screaming was heard outside of the residence.
The police forced an emergency entrance but upon entering the tiny apartment, a female Tempe officer was immediately stabbed by a male suspect with a knife. The investigators reported that the male suspect was gunned down by several other officers. The suspect was later pronounced dead that afternoon by the coroner.
Tempe police officially reported that the only death was that of the male suspect at the scene wielding a knife. However, the woman at the apartment who was assumed to be the same woman screaming, suffered severe stab wounds from the [now] dead suspect.
The female officer who was stabbed has been with the department for at least 15 years, according to officials. However, the officer’s injuries are not life threatening, but she will be in the hospital for some time before joining her peers once again.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the wounded officer for a speedy recovery!
