In addition to these incredible recipients, the Zanes Law Charitable Initiative committee was deeply moved by the stories and missions of three organizations that will receive honorary awards, each with a special grant in the amount of $1,500:
- City Psalms
- Boys to Men Tucson, Inc.
- Erik Hite Foundation
One particularly touching story comes from Douglas Arc, a nonprofit providing job skills training to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. When Douglas Arc submitted a request, it kindled fond memories of the nonprofit – an organization which Doug Zanes’ late father supported throughout his life in their hometown of Douglas, Az. Doug recalled seeing Butch, a participant in the program, mow the lawns as his way to make a living. (we recently learned Butch is still there and doing well 30 years later). Doug was deeply moved when he noticed the request for funding was going to help Douglas Arc purchase two commercial-grade lawn mowers, which will last for years!
