Our Team at Zanes Law believes in staying relevant on all issues pertaining to business and law. As our society and technology are ever-changing, our perspective on ethics needs to adapt alongside it.
This year, we are proud to announce that we will be sponsoring the University of Arizona’s Executive Ethics Symposium. During this event, business leaders are invited to discuss trending ethical topics. Previous years have touched on mortgage issues and AI; however, this year we will be discussing the ethics behind big data. Specifically, how this data is used and the responsibilities associated with collection, user privacy, and the distribution of data.
The panel for this year has pulled a variety of stakeholders, including non-profits, academics, and corporations to thoughtfully and respectfully dive into ethical concerns around big data.
The Executive Ethics Symposium will take place on August 14, 2020, and is free of charge to attend; however, the Center of Leadership Ethics is always appreciative of anyone else looking to support research, education, and outreach activities to further this discussion on ethics. For more information on how to join this event and donate, please visit the University of Arizona’s page.

If you know anything about Zanes Law, you know that we do everything from A to Z to help our community. The holidays, in particular, fill us with all sorts of ideas about how we can bring the joys of the season to people everywhere, especially children. This year, we have a really good way of doing just that.
This holiday season, we are launching our first #ZanesitForward campaign, an effort to light up children’s faces with 18 days of gift-giving. The idea is simple—and simply wonderful.
#ZanesitForward
We invite people everywhere to post an Amazon wish list on behalf of a child of your choosing. In the spirit of holiday giving, Zanes Law will fulfill up to three wish lists every day for 18 days, from December 4 to December 22. We will place a $50 daily limit per wish list, so we can include more kids in our gift-giving fun.
Equally fun and joyous, we invite you to check out the posted wish lists and purchase something off one of the lists—whatever moves you. Consider it not only a gift for a child in need, but also a gift to yourself. The feeling you will get just thinking of a child opening your gift might just be the best present you get all season long.
Guidelines for Participating in #ZanesitForward
- Anyone can post an Amazon wish list to this Facebook status update on behalf of a child, provided the child is under the age of 18.
- Don’t know how to create a wishlist on Amazon? No worries. It’s easy. Click here for instructions.
- You don’t need to give any reason why you are posting a wishlist. All we care about is bringing smiles to children this holiday season.
- Please only comment ONCE with ONE wish list, so we can better track the children who have received gifts.
- By all means, feel free to PAY IT FORWARD! You can buy an item(s) on someone else’s wishlist. Just reply to that person’s comment letting them know that “something’s on the way!” It beats the heck out of any Secret Santa game you’ll ever play, trust us!
Tips for Adding a Wish List
To add your wish list, just cut and paste the link to your Amazon wishlist in a comment to this Facebook status. Then step back and let the spirit of giving snow down on all of Arizona.
Be sure that you allow your address to be used so that Amazon can ship the gift(s) to you. To add an address to your wishlist, go to your list settings. Don’t worry about privacy, nobody can see your actual address. Please note that if you do not enable this option, you cannot be included in our random #ZanesitForward selection.
Happy Holidays From Zanes Law
All of us at Zanes Law want to wish you the happiest of holidays.
We hope you will participate in our 2019 #ZanesitForward event and help make it a happy holiday for some children who could use a smile this time of year.

The Top 3 Ways That We Were Able To Change Lives By Partnering With Up With People
My wife, Claudia, and I lost a wonderful friend named Bill Holmes on July 18, 2016. We were fortunate to have known Bill because he was a fantastic person who seemed to move through life with pure appreciation and gratitude. He was truly interested in having a positive impact on his world.
So in his honor we began to create a legacy for Bill by partnering with an organization named Up With People. Our goal was to create The Bill Holmes Legacy Fund, and as the presenting sponsor Zanes Law brought Up With People to Tucson as the foundation to raise almost $240,000 in scholarship monies in Honor of our friend.
This was an amazing experience for Claudia, myself, and our Zanes Law team. Below are the top three ways partnering with Up With People helped us to change lives.
- The Bill Holmes Legacy Fund. Establishing this has to be #1. We raised almost $240,000 that will be used to provide Up With People scholarships to deserving young people over the next fifteen years. That’s amazing! Our role in this is something that Claudia and I will always be proud of. This fund will provide opportunity to its recipients and will change their lives, and they will, in turn, have a positive impact on the world. Simply put, Claudia and I are grateful. Grateful to have been able to honor our friend. Grateful to have been a driving force behind a fundraiser that will have a positive impact on young people for years to come. Grateful to have been part of an amazing group who worked so hard and raised so much money.
- The community service. Community service has always been part of what Claudia and I and Zanes Law are about. That’s just how it’s always been. So this was a wonderful opportunity for our Zanes Law team to impact our Tucson community. As a team we enjoyed volunteering and helping at the Tucson Children’s Museum, at TMM Family Services, and at GAP Ministries.
- The Up With People team. Being part of this with Up With People’s young performers changed the lives of some our Zanes Law team members. We loved getting to know the “Uppies” while doing community service and had a great time with them. We had two people in the firm act as host families. Below is what they had to say:
- Jeanne Cote – What words would describe being a host family for UWP would be; “Life Altering for the entire family.” Our cast member was so appreciative of what we had to offer. Being a first time host, we almost backed out because we didn’t think we could handle the task. We decided at the last moment to continue and the experience has now given us an extended member of our family. We had been able to show her our neighborhood, church and go on some nature hikes. Our 9 year old knew our cast member as her host sister and misses her dearly. Our cast member helped our daughter with a school project and they spent time doing each other’s hair. We look forward to being a host family in the future.
- Richard Edelman – We were hosts for Denis Maurer, a cast member for Up with People during mid-March 2017. Denis has been on several tours with Up with People and comes from a small town close to Zurich, Switzerland. In the evening we shared history and customs as well as perspectives of world events and values. It was amazing to learn just how much we had in common despite the distance between Switzerland and the United States. As a student musician, Denis was a talented instrumentalist who could play several instruments and gave us guitar lessons one evening during the week. We were very impressed with Denis as well as all others that were associated with the Up with People program. Everyone we met was respectful, quick to establish a positive relationship and eager to assist others. For us, “Hosting” was a very positive experience and an association that we would like to continue.
This opportunity to give back to the world was an amazing experience for our Zanes Law team. Claudia and I believe that experiences are what life is all about, and this experience certainly has made our lives better.
If you’d like to help us reach our goal of $250,000- please visit www.upwithpeople.org/give and select The Bill Holmes Legacy Fund!

Zanes partners with 9-year-old founder of Garrett’s Bears
Tucson, Ariz. (December 1, 2016) – This Christmas, Zanes Law is thrilled to partner with Garrett’s Bears, a program founded by 9-year-old, Garrett Tews. Garrett’s Bears is a yearly stuffed animal drive for Banner Diamonds Children’s Medical Center and TMC for children.
Four years ago Garrett realized that children would be spending their Christmas morning in pain or frightened. Over the last four years, Garrett has raised 1,600 new stuffed animals for Diamond’s Children’s Medical Center to deliver to the children on Christmas morning.
“I raise bears each year because I believe that even a kid can give back,” said Garrett Tews, founder of Garrett’s Bears.
“Not only is this a fantastic program for children here in Tucson but for Garrett to lead this project at such a young age is a remarkable and selfless act. We want to do everything we can to support this young man live out his dream and continue to be a leader in the Tucson community,” said Doug Zanes, founder of Zanes Law.
As a part of their contribution, Zanes will also open two of their offices to the public as drop-off locations for donations beginning December 1st through December 16th:
- 3501 E. Speedway Blvd., Suite 101
- 1185 W. Irvington Road, Suite 155
Zanes Law and Garrett’s Bears are collecting any and all sized stuffed animals to help Garrett reach his goal of 400 new stuffed animals. The stuffed animals must be new with tags on as per the hospital’s policy.
This is Zanes Law’s second year partnering with Garrett’s Bears with the goal of putting as many smiles on as many faces as possible this Christmas.

When our team here at Zanes Law heard about the lack of food at the Youth On Their Own “mini-mart”, we couldn’t sit around and do nothing.
More than 30 teens rely on the food provided by YOTO daily and the organization is in dire need of food donations.
With summer right around the corner, they anticipate even more teens in need of food since school will be out and these teens will now need lunch in addition to dinner.

Read MoreZanes Law to Prepare Food Boxes for the ICM Food and Clothing Bank
This March Zanes Law has a full calendar of charity and community events and one of them is to help the ICM Food and Clothing bank prepare food boxes for local families in need family.
ICM’s core foundation is their volunteers! In fact, Several hundred volunteers spend time at ICM, providing the following services:
- At the “front counter” where clients apply for help
- Interviewing clients one-on-one to determine their specific needs
- Working the “client boutique” where clients choose clothing for the family
- Working in the “pantry” where food boxes are made up
- Supervising children in “Love Corner” while parents meet with interviewers
- Sorting and hanging clothing in the sorting room
- Preparing toiletries for needy families
In 2014, Volunteers gave 23,924 hours to ICM, the equivalent of 9 full-time, average wage employees – this would cost ICM $215,316 per year!
That kind of generosity allows ICM to keep 94.5% of their $3.5 million budget going to their clients and building expenses.
The jobs mentioned above are performed from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. every weekday and about 125 of our volunteers come in every week on the same day, and some others once a month.
Some volunteers come in groups from congregations around the Valley and enjoy a combined social and service time together. Others are like Zanes Law, local corporations and companies ready and willing to lend a hand to provide a better community and life for those less fortunate.
If you would like to volunteer and join Zanes Law on March 24th, click here for an online volunteer interest form!
Hope to see you there!

We send our children to school and eventually college in hopes that they reap an incredible amount of knowledge and one day are working the careers of their dreams!
This year Zanes Law is proud to be participating in Career Day 2016 at Sierra 2-8 School on March 4th to share our career experiences at the Law Firm with the students!

One of our favorite weeks of the year is the “Love of Reading Week” with local elementary schools!
The purpose of this week is to use local community members and businesses as a catalyst students’ future academic success by promoting READING!
This year we read to the students at Los Niños Elementary.
The employees at Zanes Law helped to spread the joy of reading by sharing a short book or story with a class. We also discussed with the students about why reading is important in their personal and professional lives.

Zanes Law’s Annual School Supply Giveaway
Besides the holidays, August is likely the Zanes Team’s most favorite time of the year!
Why?!
Because it’s our annual School Supply Giveaway and we get jazzed up about it months in advance!
This is our 5th year and we are more excited than we have ever been before!
Every year teachers across Tucson have the opportunity to apply to receive school supplies from our Giveaway that can last up to a year in their classrooms!
Why?!
Because at Zanes we truly love our teachers in our community and….
We know how hard it can be with budget cuts cutting into teachers’ own pockets for school supply without any compensation for it from their school or district…
So five years ago we decided that we were going to serve our teachers the way they continue to serve the future of our children – by giving back in the best way we thought we could!
Pencils anyone?!
This year the School Supply Giveaway is set for Saturday, August 1st and we are expected to serve 400 teachers!
Holy cow!! We are so thrilled to be saying thank you to our Tucson teachers in this way.
*Please know that the registration/application process for the Giveaway is officially CLOSED.
*You will NOT be able to receive school supplies if your name is not on our registered guest list for this year.
Thank you and we hope to see all of our teachers there on the big day!

Zanes Law’s Annual School Supply Giveaway & Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
As children we all had that awkward moment when we saw our teacher at the grocery store; it was almost like a celebrity spotting!
We tend to forget that teachers are real people, who care a whole bunch about their students, classrooms, and their school.
As many of you already know… we love teachers! In fact, every summer we hold a school supply giveaway for teachers right before their school year begins. At the Zanes Law School Supply Giveaway the registered teachers are invited to collect free school supplies from our office.
We have been hosting this event for 5 years now and it grows by a hundred teachers every year!
Over the years we have gotten to know so many teachers and have come to love them for many reasons- we listed a few reasons below in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week!
(These pictures were taken at last year’s school supply giveaway!)
Here are 3 reasons why we love our teachers!
1. They are always prepared!
^ This teacher came prepared to our school supply giveaway with a carrying case to make it easier to carry all of her supplies!
2. They are always up for a challenge!
^ Focused and ready to take on this challenging game at our “Minute to Win it” game station.
3. They like to have fun!
^Hula-hoops and all!
Zanes Law’s Annual School Supply Giveaway is coming up. Be sure to check back for details.

Zanes Law and the Love of Reading Week!
This week, we are thrilled to announce that we’ve accepted an invitation from one of our wonderful teacher-friends, Lindsey, who has invited Zanes Law to read to her students at Open Doors Community School for the “Love of Reading Week.”
By bringing outside guests in to read to classrooms of all grades, the “Love of Reading Week” is designed to underscore the importance of reading and the intrinsic value it plays in advancing our minds and education.
These days, events like the “Love of Reading Week” have become even more important as our lives, and most certainly the lives of our children have become inundated with technologies that can diminish and detract from the importance of a reading-focused education
Here, at Zanes Law, we remain committed to activities designed to serve the needs of our community and look forward to working with Lindsey and the students of Open Doors Community.
#TEACHERSPOTLIGHT
Now some history on our dear teacher-friend, Lindsey.
Lindsey has been a participant in our annual Zanes Law School Supply giveaway where we have collected and distributed school supplies to teachers around Tucson, Arizona for the past three years.
When we first met Lindsey at our giveaway—dressed in her school colors—her excitement was truly contagious. It was a no brainer to accept when Lindsey subsequently invited us to read to her students for the “Love of Reading Week.”
It was simply a pleasure visiting Lindsey’s clean, organized classroom full of polite students eager to read! So much so, that we’re excitedly making our way back to Lindsey’s classroom to share in another round for this year’s “Love of Reading Week.”

If you are a part of the Zanes Law Team, you know how much the community means to us. Our mission to help clients get their lives back together after an accident shows the same passion and dedication that permeates the work we do with and for our Tucson community.
And if you ask the Tucson community, you’ll likely hear that Zanes has its hand in helping all year long! In fact, we have a committee (comprised of our very own employees) called Zanes Angels that keeps our spirits high and our hearts open to serving new organizations throughout the year.
The holidays are an especially special and vibrant time for all of us – we smile a little bigger, we hug a little longer, we express gratitude more freely and everything around us is a little brighter.
We also tend to give a lot more during the holidays – gifts, cards, love and more. This holiday season Zanes aims to help a group of people that often gets overlooked in the pile of toys for kids and the cans of food for the homeless.
This year Zanes is looking to help St. Luke’s Home, an assisted living facility for elderly individuals of limited financial means. St. Luke’s commitment is to provide quality of life for low-income seniors through independence, aging with dignity and self-empowerment.
Our commitment is to provide the elderly at St. Luke’s with a little more this holiday season. When we spoke to St. Luke’s they gave us a list of items that they are in most need of:
- Toiletries:
- shampoo
- toothpaste
- deodorant
- other toiletry items
- Small and regular-size blankets
- Slippers
- Socks
Each and every donation we receive from the community will be hand delivered by our very own Zanes Angel Committee. Our staff has already started filling up the donation box and we hope that you will help us too!
This year we have two office drop-off locations available to the community:
3501 East Speedway Blvd. Tucson, AZ 85716, Suite 101
1185 West Irvington Rd. Tucson, AZ 85714, Suite 155

Depending on the season, you may walk into the Zanes lobby and see some ghoulish faces hanging from the windows, or a fluffy bunny bouncing across the counter, or perhaps a beautiful cornucopia spread out for our clients to enjoy.
This season seems to be the most joyous and colorful! With the Christmas tree decorated and lit up in the lobby and stockings strewn about, one can’t help but smile.
A big part of our job here at Zanes is to make sure that our client leaves our doors equipped with the knowledge and the comfort that all is being taken care of on their case.
We know, too, that it’s during the holidays that things can be the most hectic – family visiting, shopping for food and gifts, putting lights up or just the plain hustle and bustle of it all!
We want to take a little bit of that stress away with some holiday spirit and Santa fun. Next time you come visit us (and this is for non-clients in the community, too!) bring your little one in to write or mail a letter to Santa. Until DECEMBER 19th, we will be receiving all letters for Santa in the Tucson area. We’ve got his mailbox straight from the North Pole!
Drop off your letter to Santa by DECEMBER 19th and we will be sure to get it to him!
Santa’s Mailbox will be available at our Speedway Location:
3501 East Speedway Boulevard
Come into the lobby and let our awesome receptionist know that you’re here to drop off a letter to Santa, and she’ll be sure to help you out!

Zanes School Supply Giveaway 2014
Highly anticipated event on August 2nd to provide free supplies to Tucson teachers
Personal injury firm Zanes Law will host its Fourth Annual School Supply Giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 2nd, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., in the parking lot of their Speedway office at 3501 E. Speedway Blvd. Last year’s participating elementary teachers along with new applicants have already signed up to ensure their spots as supply recipients – over 200 teachers are expected to attend!
Teacher Barbara Dowling posted her gratitude for new school supplies after last year’s giveaway on the Zanes Law Facebook page: “What a terrific event. I can’t thank you all enough for the generous amount of supplies we received to start our school year! Thank you to all who gave up their day off at Zanes Law to make our day a memorable one.”
The community event is entirely funded by Zanes Law. Supplies being given away include everything from markers, to paper, to classroom cleaning supplies and more. Fantastic Five Entertainment will be live on site, and exciting games and activities will take place.
Zanes Law knows the importance of providing teachers with the tools needed to give local youth the best education possible. August is the time of year when preparation begins for the start of school. By giving teachers the supplies they need, Zanes hopes to alleviate the burden associated with extra expenses so educators can focus on what they do best: teaching.
Each year, teachers nationwide spend over $1 billion of their own money to supply their classrooms with the essentials needed. Over 90% of teachers report they take on the task of buying their own instructional materials.
“At Zanes Law, we believe that teachers strive to help our children reach extraordinary heights and build extraordinary lives,” said Doug Zanes, owner and responsible attorney of Zanes Law. “Unfortunately, many teachers do this with little to no support from the schools they work for due to lack of resources. This is what the Zanes Law School Supply Giveaway is all about. Our motivation is to support our community’s teachers so that they are able to support our children in the best possible way.”
New this year, Zanes Law is also sponsoring Eric Thompson and CivilSchools at this event. CivilSchools is a comprehensive bullying prevention program that is dedicated to building a bully-free culture. At the giveaway, the participating elementary school teachers will have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win a CivilSchools teacher certification, a yearlong anti-bullying program, and an assembly for their school. There will also be an anti-bullying mural where guests can make an anti-bullying pledge.
“We look forward to another great event and upcoming school year for Tucson’s youth!” Zanes said.

Zanes’ legal background brings fresh insight on integrity, ethics to “Eller Experience”
The University of Arizona’s Center for Leadership Ethics at the Eller College of Management has added Doug Zanes, CEO/Responsible Attorney for personal injury firm Zanes Law, to its advisory board.
The board will advise the center’s faculty, help judge its competitions and conduct symposiums on ethics and ethical business leadership.
He joins a prestigious list of southern Arizona and national business leaders on the board. The board will be chaired by Ron Sable, president of Concord Solutions. Other board members include: Matt Sesto, vice president for Walgreens drug store operations; Kim States, CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona; Russ Johnson of Merchant Solutions; attorney Frank Cramer; and Adriana Kong-Romero, Bank of America’s director of marketing for Tucson and Southern Arizona.
“I’m honored to serve on the Center for Leadership Ethics advisory board. We at Zanes Law believe it is our duty to our clients to conduct ourselves ethically and responsibly every day,” Zanes said. “To be able to help the Eller College of Management educate and train the next generation of ethical business leaders is indeed a great honor. The college’s reputation to uphold integrity and ethics is respected nationwide. I hope to provide insight that students can use in their professions across industries and state borders.”
Eller College Assistant Dean of Executive Education Dr. Paul Melendez founded the center in 2010. The center seeks to improve the ethical culture of organizations through research, outreach and education.
“Doug Zanes is a firm believer that universities have the opportunity to make a positive impact on students and the decisions they will make in the future,” Melendez said. “He is passionate about making a difference.”
The board is part of the center’s outreach mission. As such, Zanes Law will sponsor an Executive Ethics Symposium on Socially Responsible Investing in August.
“We are so pleased to have Zanes Law and Doug Zanes as the title sponsor for our Executive Ethics Symposium,” Melendez said.
According to the Center for Leadership Ethic’s website, Zanes and a panel of experts will share their insights on the emergence of Socially Responsible Investing, general methods of screening and investment performance.

We at Zanes Law are thrilled to announce that we’ll be providing 800 meals to Roskruge Bilingual Magnet Middle School students through a sponsorship of No Hungry Kids Tucson, a pilot project that seeks to provide food during the summer break to children who rely on school-supplied meals.
“No child should go without food, especially not our children here in Tucson. As a parent and as a community member, I wanted Zanes Law to be involved in this pilot project because I know it will create immediate change in a short amount of time,” said Claudia Zanes, our Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney).
You, too, can help us feed these children. Two of our locations will be drop-off locations for donations beginning May 19 through July 26:
- 3501 E. Speedway Blvd., Suite 101
- 1185 W. Irvington Road, Suite 155
We need non-perishable food items such as:
- Cereal
- Granola/cereal bars
- Peanut butter & jelly
- Macaroni & cheese
- Instant oatmeal
- Ramen noodle soups
- Other canned goods
Nadia Valle, a leader in this pilot project and founder of Wings for Women, notes that any food donated will help, but stresses the importance of “easy to make food” for the children. Valle, who started Wings for Women, an organization that empowers homeless and impoverished women to overcome despair through various resources, programs and guidance, added that No Hungry Kids Tucson is an extension of that mission and said she is excited to have Zanes Law as a sponsor.
“Claudia and Doug Zanes, as well as their staff, have always been supportive of Wings for Women and the work that we do with homeless and impoverished women and children in the community. We could not do a lot of the projects we do without the support of the community and businesses like Zanes Law. We appreciate everything that Zanes Law does for us,” Valle said.
Claudia and Doug are proud supporters of Wings for Women and will be continuing their work with them by co-hosting the Wings for Women Fall Gala, the charity’s biggest fundraiser.
To make monetary donations to No Hungry Kids Tucson, mail them to Wings for Women, P.O. Box 23369, Tucson, AZ 85734, or go to wingsforwomentucson.org and click on the PayPal link. No Hungry Kids Tucson also needs volunteers. Call 520-406-6345 for volunteer opportunity information.

Zanes Law Gets National Award for ‘Fit-Friendly Worksite’
Everyone at Zanes Law goes the extra mile for our clients – that’s no secret. What you may not know is that for the past year, employees here have been going the extra mile (literally!) for their own heart health.
The American Heart Association has given Zanes Law Gold Award recognition for 2013 as a “Fit-Friendly Worksite.” Each year, the AHA recognizes employers across the nation who go above and beyond when it comes to employees’ health. We are so thrilled to have been recognized for our work to keep hearts healthy!
Our employees have participated in several events throughout 2013 to earn this top-notch honor from the American Heart Association. In April, employees took part in the AHA’s Heart Walk, with more than 50 staff members and relatives participating. In addition, Zanes Law employees participated in the Beat Cancer Boot camp, working out twice a week for a month with the group and completing an obstacle course last March.
We also volunteered our time to participate in the 2013 Go Red Day, which promotes heart health, by wearing red and stocking the kitchen with red heart-healthy food all day. Our Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney), Claudia Zanes, even chaired the AHA’s Go Red for Women event in November of last year!
Throughout 2013, Zanes Law replaced typical work snacks with healthier options such as fresh fruit and vegetables. Employees also have access to an internal gym to use before, during and after work.
Let’s hear it for our heart-healthy employees!

Arizona-owned personal injury firm Zanes Law opened its Glendale offices on Nov. 1. Located at 6601 W. Bethany Home Road, Suite A10, the office is Zanes Law’s second in Phoenix, following the opening of a Thomas Road office in September.
The new office gives Phoenix residents convenient, ready access to Zanes Law. Established in 2003, Zanes Law is an 11-year firm with five offices, a track record of success on behalf of their clients, and 40 years of combined personal injury experience. CEO/Responsible Attorney, Doug Zanes has won settlements exceeding $1 million for clients; Claudia Zanes, Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney), manages the company’s business, finances and community projects.
The office marks a return to Phoenix for Doug Zanes, a Douglas native who obtained his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University. After graduating from law school at St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, Texas, Zanes practiced law in Phoenix before starting his own firm in Tucson in 2003. Since then, he has represented thousands of clients and is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, to which less than 1% of U.S. lawyers are admitted.
Born in Nogales and raised with few material comforts, Claudia Zanes was an award-winning sales professional before starting Zanes Law with Doug in 2003. While Doug is fluent in Spanish, Claudia has led the firm’s presence in Arizona’s Hispanic community. Today, Zanes Law is widely known for providing personal injury representation that is fully bilingual as well as effective and successful.
Phoenix residents who entrust Zanes Law with their cases will find that they become part of the family. “We are never too busy for our clients. We are a family business, and always will be. This is very important to us,” said Doug Zanes. “Even as we expand to serve clients throughout the Valley, you’ll always be able to walk in and talk to us.”
The new office will also continue Zanes Law’s tradition of community involvement. The company has a strong track record of giving back, particularly to child- and family-oriented causes, and will continue to do so in Phoenix and Glendale.
“Every day is an opportunity to give back to the community,” Claudia Zanes said. “It’s something that’s deeply rooted in our company, and has been from Day One. We are grateful and happy to be here in Glendale, able to assist families in difficult circumstances.”

Many business owners cannot imagine why quick growth would be a problem. But rapid expansion can create issues and growing pains. Fast-expanding Tucson injury firm Zanes Law is investing in its culture and its team’s personal well-being by bringing top entrepreneur and transformational speaker Lisa Nichols to Tucson on Nov. 21, to address the company’s 40 employees.
A successful entrepreneur, speaker, featured teacher on the DVD “The Secret,” and New York Times best-selling author of six books, Nichols brings an energetic, accessible approach to corporate motivation.
This will be Nichols’ fourth visit to Zanes Law, a client she has seen grow from three Tucson offices to its current five offices in two cities. The company has doubled in size in the last three years, and has two brand-new offices in Phoenix.
Doug and Claudia Zanes, along with many long-term team members, have adjusted their roles for an ever-larger firm. But what has not changed is the personal closeness that originates in Zanes Law’s beginnings as a family business.
“Change is challenging, and it says a lot when a business has the foresight to bring in experts to navigate through that process,” says Nichols. “The Zanes team has a sense of family and a commitment to the greater good. We have worked intensively on teamwork and on propelling excellence; this team has been unstoppable in its determination to grow the business and serve its clients. Claudia and Doug have demonstrated passion, excellence and desire to serve their community.”
Nichols will address workplace issues such as communication, professionalism and conflict resolution, as well as personal well-being and work/life balance, in the context of her book, “No Matter What: 9 Steps to Living the Life You Love.”
The event is exclusive to the company, but Lisa Nichols and Zanes Law Claudia Zanes Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney) will be available for a limited number of interviews on entrepreneurship and growth.

Zanes Law Philanthropy All Year Long
With the Tucson celebration of National Philanthropy Day traditionally set for November, leading up to the holiday charity season, the city’s business community is assessing the role of philanthropy in the business agenda. For one of the fastest-growing law firms in the city, however, community involvement is a priority that also makes sense for its business all year long.
“Being active and committed tour community is one of our firm’s core values,” said Claudia Zanes, Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney) of Zanes Law, a personal injury firm. “We are in this business to treat people well, and we believe strongly that each of us has a personal responsibility to contribu0te in our own way to making a better community, year-round.”
Though she is not an attorney, Zanes’ marketing knowledge, business management and deep community ties have been absolutely essential to growing the law firm. Zanes recently chaired the committee for October’s 2013 Annual Go Red for Women Luncheon, one of several banner events for the Southern Arizona branch of the American Heart Association (AHA).
“The 2013 Annual Go Red for Women Luncheon raised more than $20,000 on the day of the event, the highest in ‘day of’ donations for us,” said Casey Anderson, business development director of the American Heart Association for Southern Arizona. “This is in addition to more than $100,000 raised prior to the event. We couldn’t have done it without the dedication of people like Claudia Zanes.”
The funds will allow the AHA to conduct outreach and educate women to protect themselves against heart disease in Southern Arizona. “Go Red is more than wearing red or a luncheon; it is a movement that celebrates women standing up to fight the number one killer in our mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and friends,” said Anderson.
“As a mother, wife, daughter and friend as well as a businesswoman, I was delighted to help make this event possible,” said Zanes. “It’s part of business giving back to the community that we all share.”
In November, Tucson will join more than 100 communities across the globe celebrating philanthropy with various activities. The tradition began in 1986 when Nov. 15 was officially declared National Philanthropy Day.
“Every day is an opportunity to give back to the community,” Zanes said. “It’s something that’s deeply rooted in our law firm and has been from Day One.”
In September, Zanes Law was nominated by the Tucson Metro Chamber for a Copper Cactus Community Service Award, sponsored by El Rio Community Health Center, for going above and beyond in service to the community. Zanes Law’s offices in Tucson and Phoenix have teamed up for many community service events including the firm’s annual School Supply Giveaway, Tucson Young Professionals Bowling for Backpacks, Beat Cancer Boot Camp and more.

The couple was featured in Tucson Model Magazine, one of the city’s latest publications focusing on local talent and community-building figures.
Labeled a “business power couple” by the magazine, Doug and Claudia were lauded for their efforts to represent their clients well while actively serving the community. With Doug at the helm leading a legal team with more than 40 years of combined experience and Claudia using her years of experience in business and marketing, the firm has become one of the most recognizable firms in the Southern Arizona area.

The Tucson Model Magazine article delved deeper than most typical magazine features, however. Both Doug and Claudia explained that their success has not always been met with open arms. According to the story, success often brings criticism, something the couple discussed at length in the story. The story also brought up current themes in lawyers and the use of marketing tools, which Doug commented on extensively.
One of the most defining characteristics of Zanes Law, besides being a well-known accident Law Firm in Southern Arizona is the community outreach and support the staff has engendered in the state. The article discussed some of the many ways Zanes Law has supported the local community and referenced the many community organizations both Doug and Claudia are involved in.

Zanes Law selected the 90,000-square-foot Arcadia Gateway Center, 4222 E. Thomas Road in Phoenix, for its first office in the Valley.
Serving personal injury clients, the firm is led by Doug Zanes, CEO/Responsible Attorney, and Claudia Zanes, the Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney).
“We chose a location that was central enough to serve all areas of the Phoenix community,” said the firm’s Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney) Claudia Zanes.
Arcadia Gateway Center also is the home of Phoenix Seminary, Center for Arizona Policy, Whiting Turner, Reliance Standard Life Insurance, Hormel Foods and Stealth Solar, among others.
Greg Hopley, executive vice president at Colliers International, served as the landlord’s broker. Zanes Law did not have a broker.
“The Arcadia Gateway Center looks forward to Zanes Law serving as a dynamic new tenant that will bring additional energy and vibrancy to the business center,” Hopley said.
Over the years, Zanes Law has represented thousands of injured victims and has recovered over $85,000,000.00 for those friends that we have helped. Through all of this experience, we have seen insurance companies go to great lengths to protect their finances at the expense of our clients. We take great pride knowing that our attorneys and team are the gatekeepers who protect our clients and are the gladiators who take the fight to those who would harm our clients.

For the third year in a row, Zanes Law will be helping local educators gear up for the new school year with the firm’s annual School Supply Giveaway. Teachers from every district throughout the city have been invited to participate.
As school district budgets continue to diminish, teachers are expected to foot the cost of many of these important supplies. Zanes Law is dedicated to help shoulder this burden. For the past month, teachers have submitted applications for their needs. Among the many requests have been pens, pencils, paper, flash drives, expo markers, and many other items necessary to the education process.
While many teachers will be receiving an answer to their requests, one will receive an entire set of flash drives for his or her classroom.
All teachers and the public attending the event will also receive a free blood pressure check from the American Heart Association, courtesy of Zanes Law Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney) Claudia Zanes, who serves as Chairwoman for the Go Red for Woman Movement.

“Right now, we’re doing well in Arizona so now is a good time to help our neighbors,” said Zanes Law Director of Business & Marketing (Non-Attorney) Claudia Zanes, in a live interview with KOLD News in Tucson.

The storm, rated an EF5* on the Enhanced Fujita scale, carved a trail as much as 1.3 miles wide and 17 miles long, officials said.
