For expecting parents, there is often nothing more exciting than the prospect of having a little one to rear. However, for many, tragedy can occur at any given time. Such was the case for a young mother in a car accident earlier this month.
An infant daughter who was born prematurely after her mother was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Tucson has died.
According to the report appearing on the Tucson.com website, the crash happened on Tuesday, April 7th at approximately 2:00 p.m., when a maroon colored, older model Nissan Titan collided with a 2008 Ford Focus that a pregnant woman was riding in.
The driver of the Titan fled the scene of the crash, heading eastbound on East Speedway and then north onto North Swan Road. Eyewitnesses to the crash say that the Titan had been stopped at an intersection with a green arrow and attempted to make a left turn when the collision occurred.
The unidentified mother was just 24 weeks along in her pregnancy when the accident happened.
Emergency personnel rushed the young mother to the hospital for treatment. She later gave birth to a baby girl, who was placed on life support. The premature infant survived for two days but later died with her mother by her side.
