A Highway Worker Was Killed In a Motor Accident Near Casa Blanca Road

An Arizona Department of Transportation worker has died after he was struck and killed along Interstate 10 on Wednesday, March 4th.

ABC 15 in Phoenix reports that at approximately 10:15 A.M. Frank Dorizio, age 55, was with a roadside crew doing road repairs along the Interstate. Dorizio was setting up signs along with the highway warning drivers of the upcoming road work in Bapchule when a motorist near Casa Blanca Road struck him.

Dorizio died at the scene.

Dorizio had been with the Arizona Department of Transportation since the Fall of 2015 in both the highway operations department and as a member of the New Incident Response Unit.

In a statement, Director of the ADOT, John Halikowski, said that Dorizio’s is the first death of one of their workers since 1998. Members of the community were stunned, but Halikowski noted how members of the agency were united in camaraderie under a single mission.

“Lives are on the line when dedicated highway workers like Frank Dorizio are making things better for all of us in work zones.”

Halikowski went on to say that everyone in the agency, whether they worked directly with Dorizo or not, mourns his loss. Halikowski reminded the agency that Dorizio and the rest of the employees at the agency are all like family, “committed to the agency’s mission and the people of Arizona.”

The accident is still currently being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS)
