Huge Multi-Car Crash Injures 9 People

A chain reaction, multi-vehicle crash in North Attleboro, Massachusetts required the closure of Interstate 95 in late February during the busy morning commute and backed up traffic for miles.

NCEN.Com reports that the accident happened at approximately 6:20 a.m. on February 22nd. A 29-year-old woman driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla in the right-hand lane of the busy highway suddenly wandered into the center lane and colliding with a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The impact caused both vehicles to veer to the left, cross the median and into oncoming northbound traffic. The Toyota and the Chevy then collided with another six vehicles which included a 2016 Kia Optima, a 2005 Honda Odyssey, a 2004 Volvo S40, a 2017 Nissan Rogue, a 2004 Toyota Camry, and 2007 Hyundai Tucson.

The interstate pileup left a total of nine people injured. The driver of the Toyota and her passenger, a 25-year-old woman from Brockton, Massachusetts, were both transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. The 38-year-old male driver of the Silverado pickup truck suffered only minor injuries. Six other people were also injured in the multi-car crash and were either transported to either Rhode Island Hospital or Sturdy Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to the Fallriver Reporter, investigators have not yet determined why the driver of the Toyota suddenly veered out of her lane and into the path of the pickup truck. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Crime Scene Services Section, Troop H detectives, and troopers with the Bristol County, Massachusets District Attorney’s Office are all in working in cooperation in the investigation of the case. It remains under investigation. So far, no one has been charged regarding the accident.
