An incident on Saturday night has resulted in one man being struck by a vehicle at a south side Circle K convenience store in Tucson. The Tucson Police Department is now investigating that incident as a homicide.
According to KGUN Channel 9 in Tucson, police received a call on Saturday, May 9th, at approximately 6:00 p.m. from the Circle K at 2 West Valencia Road about aggravated assault and a man who had been struck by a vehicle.
Police arrived at the convenience store and immediately began to render aid to 41-year-old Jesus Alberto Quevedo. Paramedics with the Tucson Fire Department were also called to the scene to render aid to the victim. Quevedo was rushed to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening conditions. According to a statement, Quevedo died a short time later at the hospital.
According to the statement issued by a spokesperson for the Tucson Police Department, an altercation began outside of the convenience store between Quevedo and another male customer. The other man got into the passenger side of a Lincoln Navigator with Quevedo continuing the argument.
The driver of the Navigator, Adrian Gilbert Manriquez, attempted to pull his car out of the Circle K lot when Quevedo stepped in front of his vehicle. Quevedo threw his hands up and then down onto the hood of the vehicle as if to stop it. Instead of stopping, Manriquez accelerated, hit Quevedo, and continued driving. He then left the scene of the crash.
TPD officers were able to find Manriquez at his home a short time later. He was placed under arrest on the charges of second-degree homicide and fleeing the scene of a crash involving serious injury or death. Manriquez is currently being held in the Pima County Jail.
Tucson Police investigators are asking anyone with any further information regarding the incident to contact them at (520)791-4444 or by calling 88-CRIME.
Our condolences are with the Quevedo family at this time.
