A drug deal gone wrong is what may have led to a 16-year-old boy fighting for his life after he was hit and dragged by a car in Buckeye last week.
The AZ Family reports that on Friday, February 21st, several teens inside a vehicle met another teen to purchase marijuana at the intersection of MC 85 and Miller Road just a little after 7:00 P.M.
According to a statement by the Buckeye Police Department, eyewitnesses at the scene told investigators that one teen who had the drugs approached the vehicle when someone inside the car grabbed the bag and the driver attempted to take off, hitting the teen who was selling the drugs.
The victim hung on to the hood of the car until the driver then crashed the vehicle into a fence and caused him to be thrown off the vehicle.
The 16-year-old was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is still currently listed in critical condition. His identity has not been released.
Police arrested the driver, who is also 16 years old, in the incident, and he was booked into the Maricopa County Jail Juvenile Detention Facility. The teen is currently facing multiple charges, which include hit-and-run, aggravated assault, and other related charges.
Because the suspect driver is still considered a minor under Arizona law, his name is being withheld.
