A Woman Awaiting Trial For A DUI Offense Is Involved In Another Wrong-Way DUI Accident

It should go without saying that getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking alcohol is a poor judgment. This is especially true for someone who has done it before with a tragic outcome.

A woman, who is currently facing a previous second-degree murder charge, was in another wrong-way crash last month. The woman was in a DUI accident last year and is currently awaiting trial. AZ Central reported on its website that the latest charge against 22-year-old Delilah Castillo is also DUI-related.

On Friday, February 14, Castillo was involved in a wrong-way collision on an Interstate 17 off-ramp at Union Hills Drive just after 6:30 P.M. when she rear-ended another car.  According to court records, which included a statement from the other driver, Castillo attempted to flee the scene of the crash by pushing her vehicle into the intersection.

Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers arrived at the scene of the crash and stated that they detected the strong scent of alcohol on Castillo. The troopers noticed other indications that she was intoxicated at the time.

When asked if she had been drinking, Castillo told the DPS trooper that she had been in New Mexico.  A blood-alcohol test conducted at the scene indicated that she had a BAC level of 0.214 percent – which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

On July 20, 2019, Castillo was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after she collided her Chevy Malibu with A Nissan sedan that 20-year-old Liquan Lemon was driving on the Loop 101 near Union Hills Drive. Lemon was pronounced dead at the scene.  Castillo was due to appear in court sometime in April of  2020.

Castillo is now facing one more count of DUI, one charge of having a BAC of more than 0.08% and a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
