Another incident of street racing in the northbound lanes of State Route 51 is being blamed for at least one death on Tuesday night.
The AZ Family reported that the fatal crash happened at approximately 8:00 P.M. near the Shea Boulevard exit ramp when the driver of one vehicle lost control, and their vehicle rolled over multiple times. The driver was allegedly racing another vehicle.
Aerial footage gathered from the scene by the AZ Family helicopter show what once was a vehicle and debris. Viewers of the footage can see the car’s engine scattered in the center of the northbound lanes of SR 51.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene in an attempt to save the driver. The emergency crew declared that at least one person was dead at the scene. The driver’s identity has not been released.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Public Safety, two drivers were allegedly racing on SR 51 when one of the drivers lost control, and his vehicle slammed into a concrete median wall.
The driver of a second vehicle that was allegedly participating in the street race was pulled over at a car wash in the area. According to a Department of Public Safety spokesperson, it is possible that the driver of that car may have been involved in the deadly street racing incident. The troopers also confirmed seeing the vehicle leaving the scene scene of the deadly car accident.
The accident is still currently under investigation, and more information may be released soon.
