Collision Leaves A Man Critically Injured And Infant Unharmed

A two-vehicle collision in Phoenix on Tuesday, February 4th, left a 57-year-old man injured while the four-month-old infant in the car with him was unhurt in the crash.

According to the report appearing on the AZ Family website, the crash happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road. A man driving a passenger vehicle was broadsided by the driver of a pickup truck that was attempting to make a left turn.

Detective Luis Samudio with the Phoenix Police Department said that the driver of a white Ford Mustang was heading southbound on 83rd Avenue when 2014 Chevy Silverado pickup truck was attempting to make a left turn from the northbound lanes of 83rd Avenue to West Thomas Road. The two vehicles collided, causing the mustang to jump the curb and hit a nearby chain-link fence.

The driver of the Mustang was severely hurt in the collision and was taken to the hospital. The 57-year-old man is listed in critical condition. His identity has not been released.

Samudio told reporters that inside the vehicle, police found a 4-month-old infant in the back seat secured in a child restraint seat. The baby was transported to an area hospital as a precaution but was uninjured in the accident.

The 34-year-old male driver in the pickup truck was uninjured. Police investigators say that there were no indications of impairment at the time of the crash, but the speed and possible impairment of the driver of the Mustang may have played a role.

The accident is still currently under investigation.
