The Phoenix Police Department is currently searching for a suspect who allegedly carjacked a box truck and a woman’s SUV early Wednesday.
According to Phoenix Police Department’s spokesperson, Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, and appearing in a report released on The Arizona Family website, the incident began when police officers had detained and were questioning a group of men. Eyewitnesses in the area had alerted police of suspicious activity near a bank located near the intersection of Cave Creek Road and Escobar Way.
Police said that one of the men fled on foot as soon as the police arrived at the scene.
The man reportedly pulled a handgun on the driver of an Amazon delivery box truck with a passenger still in the truck. A short distance later, the suspect put the truck in park, grabbed the keys and fled. A short distance away, he carjacked a woman who was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche SUV.
The suspect jumped into the vehicle through the passenger door, which was unlocked. The man then pointed the gun at the woman, hit her and then kicked her out of the SUV.
Police said in their statement that neither carjacking victim was injured.
Phoenix Police officers later located the abandoned SUV in a neighborhood in the area of 28th Street and Larkspur, but the suspect had already fled the scene. Officers continued to search the surrounding area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Currently, the suspect in both carjacking incidents is still at large.
