A flight instructor and student pilot were injured after the crash of a small aircraft at the AK-Chin regional airport in Maricopa County on Tuesday.
KTAR reported on their website that a crash involving an Ercoupe 415-C aircraft happened on Tuesday, September 10th at approximately 8:30 a.m. The ownership of the plane is registered to Desert Rat Aviation.
Andy Estes, who owns Desert Rat Aviation, told reporters that the plane crashed into the second-floor portion of an office at the airport that is used infrequently by pilots who visit the airport. Estes was in the building at the time that the crash occurred but was unhurt.
Estes said that the flight instructor and student who had been in the aircraft were taken to an area hospital for treatment for their injuries. Their identities and current condition were not available at the time of the report.
Authorities are uncertain what led to the crash of the small aircraft. but suspect that the plane may have stalled. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be conducting an investigation of the crash.
The debris from the crash did not encroach onto the runways and so there were no flight delays at the airport.
