All accidents can be terrifying; however, few are as frightening as a rollover crash. A recent rollover crash in Tucson on Thursday, May 2nd left one person dead and another person seriously injured.
Tuscon.com reports that officials have released the identity of the victim as 24-year-old Melvin Ingram. The identity of the male passenger, also in his 20’s, was not released.
The Tucson Police Department said in a statement that the accident occurred in the 3000 block of North Fontana Avenue just before 3:00 p.m. when Ingram lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet Yukon SUV.
During the investigation of the fatal crash, police detectives determined that the southbound vehicle being driven by Ingram went through the intersection of North Fontana and East Delano when he lost control of the vehicle. During the crash, the vehicle struck a curb and a mailbox attached to the end of a concrete wall. The impact caused a tripped rollover. The passenger was ejected from the SUV before it came to rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Neither man had been wearing a seatbelt at the time. Both men were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Doctors pronounced Ingram dead soon after his arrival. The passenger was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. While speed is known to have played a role in the crash, it is uncertain if impairment from alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Currently, the accident is still under investigation.
