Teen Dies After Vehicle Was Broadsided, Community Mourns

Few things in the world are as heartbreaking as the loss of a young person.  Today, the town of Gilbert is in mourning after the tragic loss of a teen on Saturday, October 12th.

ABC 15 in Phoenix reports that authorities have released the identity of the student who attended the American Leadership Academy as 16-year-old Bohdie Larson. 

A spokesperson for the Gilbert Police Department said that the two-vehicle crash happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Soboba Street and Queen Creek when Bohdie was attempting to make a left-hand turn in his 2002 Toyota Corolla. During the turn, Bohdie’s vehicle was broadsided by a GMC Yukon.

The 42-year-old male driver of the SUV was uninjured in the collision. The driver’s wife, a 39-year-old woman, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

Police have ruled out both speed and impairment as factors in the crash.  The investigation, however, is ongoing.

Friends in the community, like Ethan Schenck, remember Bohdie with fondness.  “He would always be there for me,” Schenck told ABC. The teens had often attended church together, and had an outgoing personality and a love of going on adventures with friends.

The Highland High School football team sent out a tweet offering their support to their athletic director, Brandon Larson, and his wife, Brittney, over their family’s loss. ‘We are asking our Hawk Football family to come together and help them out. We love you, Coach!”

The community has also set up a GoFundMe page to help the Larson’s for funeral and other expenses.
