One person is dead, and one other person was injured in a crash that happened in the early morning hours near 43rd Avenue and Van Buren Street in Phoenix.
ABC 15 in Phoenix reports that the accident happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 22nd when the driver of a 1997 Mazda Miata failed to yield to a 2007 Chevy Tahoe SUV while turning into the parking lot of a Circle K convenience store.
A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department said in a statement that a passenger inside the Miata was killed. Authorities have identified him as Austin Shute, 18 of Phoenix.
The 27-year-old driver of the Miata suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. Their identity has not been released at this time.
The 45-year-old female driver of the Chevy Tahoe, whose identity was also not released by police, was uninjured in the accident. Both the driver of the Miata
Investigators closed down the Valley roadway of Van Buren Street between 43rd and Fillmore and morning commuter traffic was re-routed for a number of hours while law enforcement investigated the scene of the deadly crash.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fatal crash. So far no charges have filed in the case.
