Homeless Woman Steals Ambulance, Crashes Into Fence

FOX 10 in Phoenix reports that a homeless woman who stole and crashed an ambulance downtown has been arrested.

A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department said that approximately 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7th, Kimberly Vasich, 29, stole an ambulance from a Phoenix Fire Station located at after having climbed a fence to gain access to the vehicle.

Vasich drove the vehicle eastbound onto 12th Avenue and Madison Street. Phoenix Police officers responding to the incident were unable to get Vasich to pull the vehicle over. Police eventually deployed spike strips at the intersection of 9th Avenue Jefferson Street. After hitting the spike strips, Vasich lost control of the ambulance and crashed it into a chain-link fence.

Vasich, who was uninjured in the crash, was placed under arrest and taken into custody. She is currently facing the charges of criminal trespass, burglary, criminal and theft to a means of transportation and unlawful flight from law enforcement officers.

Court documents with the Maricopa County Superior Court indicate that Vasich was without an attorney at the time of her appearance. The judge issued Vasich under a $2,500 bond. She remains in jail and awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled on August 16th.

The ambulance, which belongs to the Phoenix Fire Station located near 15th Avenue and Pierce Street has suffered more than $1,000 of damage to its front end and tires in the incident.
