A carload of teens out for a joy ride along a stretch of Arizona road can be both a potential recipe for disaster and a parent’s worst nightmare.
The Arizona Family reported on its website earlier this week that a group of teenagers was out driving when the teen driver lost control of the car. The vehicle spun out of control and into the fence of a nearby residence.
According to a statement made by a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened in the early morning hours of Monday, July 13th, just north of the intersection of North Hawes Road and McDowell Road. Investigators say that four teens between the ages of 14 and 15 years of age were in the vehicle at the time. Investigators say that the car was speeding just before the teen driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into the gate and fence of a home.

Officials say that one of the teens who were in the vehicle as a passenger was severely injured in the accident. The teen was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash. Their current condition was not released at the time of the report.
The three other teens who were in the vehicle were treated at the scene and released.
The accident is currently under investigation. So far, investigators have ruled out impairment in the crash. Investigators have not yet said whether speed may have played a role in the crash.
