Getting behind the wheel of a car after you’ve been drinking is never a good idea. An even worse and potentially tragic idea is to do so while there are children in the car. That is what one man in El Mirage did on Saturday, September 28th when he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and going the wrong way with his two children in the car with him at the time.
ABC 15 in Phoenix reports that authorities in Maricopa County have arrested Joshua Degurski, 30 after he was observed driving erratically on Dysart Road by El Mirage Police officers. Heading northbound on El Mirage, Degurski’s vehicle wandered into the center turn lane near Glendale Avenue, and then later allowed his truck to walk into southbound traffic lanes.

Officers pulled Degurski over on suspicion of DUI. In the passenger seat was another adult male and to children, aged 11 years and 8 years old. Officers detected the strong scent of alcohol coming from Degurski. The suspect displayed additional symptoms characteristic of intoxication which included bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech. A blood-alcohol test at the scene indicated that Degurski had a blood alcohol level of 0.227, which is almost three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Degurski was placed under arrest for multiple felonies which include driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with passengers under the age of 15, endangerment, wrong-way driving, and other related charges.
Degurski was later released from jail on his own recognizance. Court records indicate that he is due to appear in court later this month on October 11th.
