Driver Survives Rolling Vehicle Down 400 Foot Embankment

No matter what we may have seen in the movies, crashes in which a motor vehicle becomes airborne are thankfully rare. Such accidents rarely end well when it lands again. In such accidents, passengers and drivers can end up being seriously hurt, or worse.

According to a report by KGUN in Phoenix, one man, however, is expected to be ok after an incident after his car flew 121 feet off the road, crashed back to the ground, and rolled down a 400-foot embankment.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety reports that the incident happened along State Route 89A on Monday, December 9th. DPS investigators determined that the driver had been traveling at the excessive speed of 65 miles per hour in 20 miles per hour zone. The vehicle went off the road and became airborne before landing once more and rolling down a rugged and steep embankment.

Emergency crews found the driver to be semi-conscious inside the vehicle. The driver, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, had to be extricated from the wreckage of his car.

Once freed, he was rushed by Ambulance to Deer Valley Medical Center for treatment. The driver’s current condition has not been released, but authorities believe that he will be ok.

Investigators have not determined whether the driver had been wearing a seatbelt at the time or if alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the crash.

The accident is still currently under investigation. So far no charges have been filed in connection to the case.
