A Phoenix woman is facing three felony charges and two misdemeanor charges after she fled the scene of two DUI crashes while her two children were in the vehicle with her.
ABC 15 in Phoenix reports that the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office filed the charges against Mariza Cervantes Madrid, 33, on Monday, August 19th.
Court documents indicate that the accidents both happened on Thursday, August 15th. One crash, occurred at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road where she rear-ended another vehicle. The victim in the collision followed Madrid. The second crash happened near 19th Avenue and Greenway Road when Madrid jumped a center median, popped one of the Tahoe’s tires, and hit the second car. A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department said that Madrid also left the scene of the second crash.
Police apprehended Madrid at her home located at a nearby trailer court, standing next to the Chevy Tahoe that had been involved in both crashes.

Madrid told police that she left the scene of the two accidents because she was in a hurry to get home at the request of her husband who told her to get home fast. She also admitted to police that her two children, both under the age of five, had been in the vehicle with her at the time of the accidents.
A blood alcohol test indicated that Madrid had a blood alcohol level of 0.181 percent – more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. After further investigation, police also discovered that Madrid had been driving without a license.
Madrid was arrested with two counts of extreme DUI and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.
