Crash Case Turns Into Attempted Murder Case

Phoenix Police are now charging a man who crashed his vehicle into a home in West Phoenix earlier this month with attempted murder.

Fox 10 in Phoenix reports that Ricardo Munoz, 20, was booked into custody on Monday. Munoz had just been released from the hospital after crashing his vehicle into a home.  Inside the vehicle with him at the time were his 17-year-old wife and their 2-year-old daughter. The vehicle hit the structure and ended upside down inside the garage.  Though the home was occupied at the time of the accident, no one inside the residence was injured.

Investigators now believe that after an argument with his wife that began at an area grocery store on the night of Sunday, July 21st, Munoz intentionally crashed the family vehicle into the home. Police are now saying that Munoz had been driving at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour just before the crash.

Munoz’ wife said that the argument started when she had asked her husband to help her lift some water.  He then became verbally abusive and driving erratically. At one point, Munoz told his wife, “I am going to kill you! We are going to die!” just before crashing into a home located in the 4500 block of North 87th Avenue in West Phoenix.

Munoz, his wife, and two-year-old daughter suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.  The two-year-old girl suffered a broken femur and required surgery.

The owner of the home that Munoz crashed into is uncertain if their house can be repaired. Currently, the house is boarded up and fenced off and awaiting a damage assessment from their insurance company.

Munoz is now facing several felony charges including attempted second-degree murder and kidnapping,
