At least four people were recently sent to the hospital after a motorist jumped a curb and took out the bus stop where they were waiting for a bus.
The AZ Family reports that Phoenix Police Department investigators have determined that the incident involved two vehicles. One of the cars was forced by the other to go through the bus stop in north Phoenix on Greenway Parkway, where passengers were waiting.
Eyewitnesses to the crash say that the sedan being driven by a woman collided with the bus stop and dragged it approximately 15 feet before it hit a chain-link fence and came to a stop. The bus stop then collapsed on top of the car.
Initial reports indicate that at least three men were waiting at the bus stop at the time of the accident. Two of them are now listed in extreme critical condition at an area hospital. The other man and the female driver are listed with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
A resident of the neighborhood along Greenway Parkway told AZ Family reporters that speeding along that section of road continues to be a problem. Motorists on that street tend to go 10 -20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
The owner of a furniture store located on the other side of the chain-link fence told police that he heard the crash and came out to help wherever he could and described the accident scene to reporters as being ‘gruesome.’
Police are currently investigating the crash.
