A Woman Was Arrested For Her Role In A DUI Accident That Killed A Motorcyclist

A woman has been arrested for her role in a fatal motorcycle crash that happened on the southeast side of Tucson on Friday night.

KGUN in Tucson reported on its website that officers from the Tucson Police Department and firefighters with the Tucson Fire Department were called to respond to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Swan Road and 22nd Street on Friday, May 15th at approximately 8:42 p.m.

Officers responded to the scene to find a collision involving a red 2009 Toyota Scion and a motorcycle. Investigators say that the Scion had been traveling eastbound on 22nd Street when it entered the left-turn lane to head northbound on Swan Road. The driver of the Scion, 55-year old Karen Burgan, turned her vehicle in front of a 2004 Harley Davidson Road Bike being driven by 36-year-old Cory Troutman. Both vehicles had the green light.

A spokesperson for the Tucson Police Department told reporters that Troutman was severely injured in the crash. He was rushed from the scene to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Burgan stayed at the scene of the accident. A DUI officer with the TPD tested Burgan for possible impairment, and it was determined that her blood–alcohol level was over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. Burgan was arrested at the scene on the charges of DUI and aggravated assault.

Authorities say that on Saturday, May 16th, Cory Troutman died from the injuries he suffered in the accident. Additional charges are expected in the case.
