24 Open Containers Of Alcohol, Infant Found In Jeep After Arrest

Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers have arrested a man after finding 24 open containers of alcohol in his vehicle on Monday Night.

ABC 15 in Phoenix reports that the driver of a Jeep Wrangler was pulled over by DPS officers at the intersection of McDowell Road and 107th Avenue after the driver, Joshua Mykel Edwards, 31 was spotted following a semi-tractor trailer rig too closely and making several rapid and erratic lane changes.

At one point, DPS officers clocked at a speed of 81 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour speed zone.

When DPS officers stopped Edwards’ vehicle, they spotted a 21-month-old infant in the back seat of the SUV.  While being questioned by officers, Edwards admitted to having drunk beer earlier in the day and agreed to take a field sobriety test after officers noted significant signs indicating that Edwards was intoxicated.

Edwards failed the field sobriety test, and a Breathalyzer indicated that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 2and 0.153, which is almost twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent and falls under the charge of extreme DUI.

DPS officers also found on the floorboards and passenger seat of Edwards’ vehicle 24 mini-liquor bottles.

Authorities contacted the child’s mother, and he was released to her custody.  The Department of Child Safety was also contacted following the incident.

Edwards was arrested on the charges of extreme DUI, driving with open liquor containers, and child endangerment.
