FBI Special Agent Saves A Woman Trapped In An Overturned Vehicle Along Copper Mine Road

A woman was rescued while trapped underneath a van by three Good Samaritans, one of whom is an FBI Special Agent assigned to the Phoenix Division.

According to the story appearing on the AZ Family website, on Tuesday, June 2nd, Special Agent John Garcia with the FBI’s Flagstaff Resident Agency office was driving along Copper Mine Road. He spotted a serious accident involving an overturned vehicle.

An eyewitness at the scene told Special Agent Garcia that a woman was trapped underneath the van and appeared to be seriously injured.

Grabbing his gear, Garcia joined two other Good Samaritans who were attempting to lift the van off of the woman in order to free her.

The three men were able to lift the van off of her enough to stabilize it and keep its weight from crushing the woman.  The vehicle was moved off of the trapped woman enough to see that she had suffered two likely broken legs, one of which was bleeding severely.   Garcia was able to apply a tourniquet to the leg and help stop the bleeding until emergency rescue could arrive at the scene.

Garcia and the two other men kept the woman engaged in conversation in an attempt to keep her from losing consciousness until the Navajo Nation Police and paramedics arrived. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities say that she has been released from the hospital and is expected to be ok.

“In the FBI, we take our oath to protect and serve seriously, whether we are protecting victims of crimes or stopping on the side of the road to render assistance and help save someone’s life,“ Special Agent Sean Paul, who heads the FBI’s Phoenix Division, told reporters. “SA Garcia truly embodies our commitment to making a difference in the communities we serve.”
