Nothing in the world can be as painful as when we lose a loved one in an accident. When the loved one who is lost is a child, there is possibly no greater pain in the world. When the person responsible for such a tragedy leaves the scene of an accident when someone is severely injured or worse, such callousness can be almost unimaginable.
AZ Central reported that such a tragedy unfolded early last month when a man driving a Land Rover collided with a Honda Pilot late Friday, July 7th in Tolleson.
Tolleson Police Department Spokesman, Simon Lopez told reporters that the accident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. near Interstate 10 and 91st Avenue. Authorities say that the driver, Arturo Perez, 28, abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene of the crash on foot.
Police located Perez a short time later, and he was placed under arrest.
A seven-year-old girl, who had been riding as a passenger in the Honda Pilot suffered life-threatening injuries during the crash. The child was rushed by ambulance to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where she later died as the result of the injuries she suffered in the crash.
The male driver of the Honda Pilot was also injured in the crash. He was taken to East Valley Hospital for treatment. Authorities did not release any information as to his identity or medical status after the crash.
Perez was booked into Avondale and faces charges of manslaughter, suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing the scene of an accident, and other related charges.
