A Helmet May Have Saved These Rider’s Lives

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC),  each year, motorcycle helmets reduce the chance of death in an accident by an estimated 37%.  Wearing a helmet can also help prevent severe head trauma by as much as 69%. Tragically, in an accident in Tucson that happened earlier this month,  the lives of two people may have been saved if they had chosen to wear helmets.

KVOA in Tucson reported on its website that on Saturday, Jun 13th, 56-year-old William Dale Reynolds and his wife, 46-year-old Michelle Lynn Reynolds, were riding their motorcycle along Aviation Parkway when the crash occurred.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Officers with the Tucson Police Department responded to the scene on the on-ramp to Golf Links Road.  Paramedics transported the couple to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

William Reynolds, who had been driving the motorcycle at the time of the crash, died on June 16th while Michelle Reynolds died days later on Sunday, June 21st, at approximately 8:55 a.m.

Investigators with the Tucson Police Department told reporters that neither victim had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Authorities also found that William Reynolds had been operating the motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol.
