Many of the plaintiffs participating in the multidistrict litigation against Roundup manufacturer Monsanto and parent company Bayer AG, MDL 2741, regularly used glyphosate-based herbicides as a part of their job. The occupations at risk for cancer/Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma related to Roundup Weed Killer includes:
This does not mean, however, that those who sprayed Roundup on their personal properties are not at risk. At Zanes Law, we are currently evaluating cases for anyone who used Roundup or another glyphosate-based herbicide and later developed Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
As of September 2019, three Roundup cancer causes have gone in front of juries. The plaintiffs recovered millions of dollars each, even after the courts reduced some of the awards granted by the juries.
In one case, a couple used a gallon of Roundup herbicide each week on their four properties for 30 years. They believed the weed killer was safe, so they did not take any extra precautions such as face shields or protective clothing, according to reports in the Washington Post. Both developed Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and the wife suffered brain damage as a result.
Other plaintiffs, such as school groundskeeper Dewayne “Lee” Johnson, did take precautions but still developed Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. His cancer is terminal.
In the case of Edwin Hardeman, the first person to challenge Roundup manufacturer Monsanto in a federal trial, testified he began using Roundup in 1986. He used the herbicide regularly on his large plot of land for almost 30 years. While he took some general precautions, he remembers getting it on his skin before he was diagnosed with cancer.

Dr. Dennis Weisenburger has long studied Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and links to agriculture. He has testified in all three trials that have taken place so far, agreeing with the plaintiffs that their Roundup use likely increased their risk for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Moreover, Dr. Weisenburger, a pathologist, believes it is not the years of using the spray that can lead to this often-aggressive type of lymphoma. Instead, it is the intensity of the exposure. This means that a few days a year of intense use could increase the risk just as much as using it regularly for years.
If you have any symptoms or signs of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma or have extreme fatigue, unexplained weight loss, or other possible signs of illness, see your doctor as soon as possible. This is a good idea, no matter whether you have used Roundup or other weed killers or not.
However, if you have intense exposure to Roundup more than a few days a year or regular exposure over several years, you may have an increased risk for developing a glyphosate-related cancer, including Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
