A Mother Gives Birth To A Daughter During An Accident

When you’re in an accident, it is easy to get confused and disoriented in the aftermath. For one woman who gave birth during an accident and was unable to find her newborn baby afterward, the sense of panic must have been unimaginable.

Fox 10 in Phoenix reported that on Monday, April 13th, Crystan Graham had just gone into labor when her mother, Krystal Jones, was driving her to the birthing center at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Due to slippery road conditions on the Lawrenceville Highway at the time, Jones’ Chevy Tahoe SUV hydroplaned. The vehicle went off the road and crashed into the gates of the BAPS Hindu Temple before coming to a stop.

It was during the crash that Crystan’s infant daughter was born while she was in the backseat of the SUV.

Coming upon the accident scene, Jones told Danny Bride, a Lilburn Police officer, that her daughter had given birth. “Where is the baby?” Bride asked.

“We don ‘t know!” Ms. Jones said through tears, “I was just trying to get to the hospital!”

Officer Bride asked again, and Ms. Jones explained that the baby had been in Crystan’s womb and that she was giving birth when the crash happened.

A few moments later, Officer Bride was joined by Officers Cepeda Huff and Sgt. Matt Madden, who also joined the search to find the newborn infant amid the shattered glass and debris from the crash and feared that the baby might have been thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

Officer Huff suggested looking under the middle seat of the SUV because he thought he might have seen a bit of umbilical cord sticking out. It was under that seat that they found the tiny infant, moving and breathing on her own.

Huff carefully picked up the infant girl and brought her over to her grateful mother and grandmother. Cea Anderson was just 3 pounds and 9 ounces at the time of her birth.  The baby was taken by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit.  Her mother, Crystan, has been discharged from the hospital.

The three Lilburn police officers were happy they were in the right place at the right time and that the story had a happy ending.
