Amid Road Changes Due To The COVID-19 Pandemic, Two Died In Separate Accidents

Despite far fewer vehicles being on the road during the current Coronavirus crisis, accidents can still happen as the open road become a temptation for a myriad of traffic violations. Phoenix Police are investigating two separate fatal car crashes that occurred this Wednesday.

According to a report appearing on the Fox 10 in Phoenix’s website, 26-year-old Chandler Cilk fell out of a pickup truck for unknown reasons. She was then struck and killed by the driver of the truck.

Police say that the accident happened in a parking lot located near West Beryl Avenue and North 25th Avenue in Phoenix at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8th.

Police arrived at the location of the accident and declared Cilk dead at the scene.  The unidentified male driver of the pickup truck was detained and questioned by police officers but was later released.

The incident is still currently under investigation, and no further information has been released.

A second crash happened later that same afternoon at approximately 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of 48th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard. Police were called to a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

Officers responded to the scene where a motorcyclist collided with a pickup truck that was making a turn. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Erik Flores-Valenzuela.

While police officers at the scene don’t believe that speed or impairment by alcohol or drugs played any role in the crash, investigators are still looking into the incident.
