A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department was able to recount the events of the multi-vehicle accident. The PPD spokesperson explained that a white passenger vehicle had been traveling southbound on 7th Street when they attempted to make a left turn onto Dunlap. The sedan was broadsided by a white pickup truck. In a chain-reaction, the impact from the truck sent the car into the path of a white minivan.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the crash where a male occupant of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 54-year-old Fernando A. Hernandez.
The female driver of the sedan and the driver of the pickup truck were transported to an area hospital. They both received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, and they are expected to recover. The two occupants of the white minivan were reportedly uninjured in the crash.
The cause of the accident is still currently under investigation by Phoenix Police Department Detectives. So far, impairment has not been ruled out as a possible cause of the crash. We send our sincerest condolences to the Hernandez family.
