Dashcam Video Catches Hit-And-Run As It Happened, Driver Still At Large

AZ Family reports that on Tuesday, the Phoenix Police Department released dashcam footage from a private citizen that captured a hit-and-run accident as it happened. The crash happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. on July 2nd on Dunlap Road and claimed the life of a 37-year-old pedestrian, Steven Hoffman, Jr.

Police are hoping that by releasing the dashcam video, they can receive the public’s help in apprehending the driver who is still at large.

A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department said in a statement that Hoffman had been walking eastbound with a friend when a 2002 Ford Expedition drifted onto the sidewalk and struck Hoffman. The SUV did not stop and continued driving.

The captured dashcam video also shows the suspect vehicle turning onto the next major cross intersection and heading southbound. The video shows that the vehicle was either green or another dark color.

Emergency crews pronounced Hoffman dead at the scene.
