Infant Injured, Woman Dead In Crash On 67th Avenue

Teen and young adult drivers are often involved in severe accidents. Studies have shown that inexperienced drivers have higher insurance rates, mainly because they are more prone to take risks. KTAR News reported earlier this month about a multi-vehicle accident that happened in Phoenix on the night of Sunday, May 5th that left two people dead and four others injured. Among those injured in the crash was an infant. Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said in an emailed statement to the radio station that the accident happened at happened on 67th Avenue in the area of Buckeye Road at approximately 8:00 p.m. and involved three vehicles.

Authorities say that a vehicle being driven by Bianca Aguirre, 18, was heading northbound on 67th Avenue when she crossed the center median and crashed into a second vehicle. The impact put Aguirre’s vehicle into a spin and sent it into a third vehicle. Emergency crews pronounced a woman who had been a passenger in the second vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, dead at the scene of the crash. Authorities have identified her as Cherish Lewis, 34.

Also in the vehicle were a 32-year-old driver and an 11-month old infant. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. Aguirre was rushed to an area hospital for treatment where she later died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the crash.

Police are uncertain as to whether impairment or distraction played any role in the fatal crash.
