Phoenix Light Rail Crash
May 18, 2015
A very major and scary crash recently closed down a major Central and Indian School Road intersection.
Although the crash has long been cleared since Saturday, the collision between a commercial truck and a city light rail, continues to keep the busy intersection closed.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department three people were hospitalized on Saturday and a many more witnesses rattled.
Police said both the 30-foot-long commercial truck and the light rail train were southbound when the truck tried to turn and was struck by the 100,000-pound train in the area of Central avenue.
A rider on the light rail braced himself in anticipation as the brakes came to a screeching grind. In fact, this rider was certain that the train would be hitting something.
“All of a sudden, I heard the brake, and I was like, ‘Oh shoot, we might have hit something.’”
This particular rider said passengers pressed the emergency knobs to exit the train and rushed to help the two men in the truck.
As the riders approached the truck, one man was trying to kick open the window. Thankfully he was slowly pulled out of the truck along with the passenger of the truck.
Phoenix Fire Captain said those two men were taken to hospitals in stable condition, along with a light rail passenger.
Other passengers complained of minor injuries but were not transported.
One thing is clear – the police have not placed blame on either party – yet.
The light rails are equipped with many cameras and the hope is that the crash was recorded and will reveal what exactly happened and who is at fault.
