Phoenix police are on the lookout for a man who stole a car with a baby inside. Law enforcement officers in Phoenix, AZ released video surveillance footage related to a carjacking incident that began at a store. The video revealed the thief dropping off the baby at a local business before taking off again.
Channel 12 in Phoenix reports that the incident began on Sunday at around 3:00 P.M. at a Quick Trip gas station and convenience store located on Camelback Road near Interstate17.
A man stopped at the station and refueled his vehicle. When he was finished pumping, he went inside to pay for his fuel, leaving his six-month-old baby and the keys to the car inside the vehicle.
Seeing an opportunity, another man jumped into the seat of the car and took off with the baby still inside.
An off-duty police officer said that he found the baby inside his car seat at another business located on Indian School Road just 10 minutes after the initial car theft. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed and has been reunited with his father.
Video footage shows a Hispanic man with dark curly hair entering the business with the car seat before leaving again in the gray 2007 Kia Sorento. Police say that the vehicle has a temporary paper license tag.
Police have not said whether the father of the baby will face charges.
The incident is still being investigated. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Phoenix Police Department.
