Man Dies After Accident With DUI Driver

According to the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), driving under the influence of alcohol claims more than 10,000 lives in the U.S. every year. In 2017, the number of deaths attributed to drunken driving was 10,874. In the State of Arizona, the legal blood alcohol level anyone can have while operating a vehicle is under 0.08%. Driving while impaired affects the brain in terms of thinking, muscle coordination and reaction time.
KVOA News in Tucson reported that on April 1st, a man died after injuries he suffered from in an accident which involved an alcohol-impaired driver.
The accident happened on March 31st shortly after 4:00 a.m. at the intersection of Speedway Boulevard and Camino Seco. Justin Faucher, 38 was driving his Saturn sedan eastbound on Speedway Boulevard when his vehicle was rear-ended by a Ford Fusion that was attempting to pass him. The Fusion clipped Faucher’s car, sending it into a spin and causing it to jump across the concrete median and come to rest in the westbound lanes of Speedway Boulevard.
Investigators with the Tucson Police Department said that Faucher had not been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. He was rushed via ambulance to Banner University Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Authorities report that Faucher died the next day as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The female driver of the Ford Fusion stayed at the scene of the crash. Officers with the Tucson Police Department noted signs of impairment, tests indicated that she had been driving while impaired, and she was placed under arrest. No other information about the at-fault driver has been released.
The incident is still under investigation. Additional charges may be filed in the case.
