Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man who was wanted by U.S. Marshalls after he crashed his car into the garage door of a home in Fountain Hills.
According to the ABC 15 website, Rosario Vega, 37, was spotted speeding near the intersection of Palisades Boulevard and Shea Boulevard by an MCSO deputy on the morning of Sunday, February 16th.
The deputy attempted to pull Vega over in a routine traffic stop when the suspect sped away. The MCSO deputy began to pursue Vega’s vehicle but later ceased the pursuit when the suspect vehicle kicked up a large cloud of dust and debris.
Maricopa Sheriff’s Office received a call at a home in Fountain Hills at approximately 10:40 A.M. reporting a vehicle had crashed into the garage of a home in the same area where Vega had been initially spotted.
MCSO deputies responded to the call to find Vega’s car embedded into the garage door.
Officials say that Vega emerged from his vehicle with a severe cut to his arm. A female passenger who was also in the car at the time was critically injured and transported to a hospital in Scottsdale for treatment.
Court documents indicate that the woman suffered a skull fracture and damage to her vertebrae in her neck. She is currently in a medically induced coma in Scottsdale hospital’s intensive care unit. Her identity has not been released at this time.
Investigators believe that Vega was traveling an estimated 90 miles per hour before he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the home.
Vega was being sought by the U.S. Marshalls Service for transporting marijuana into the U.S. from Mexico. In addition to the federal warrants against him, Vega is also facing charges of endangerment and aggravated assault.
