Scottsdale Police recently released a statement saying that they have arrested a driver who was involved in a two-vehicle collision earlier this month that left one person dead.
The Scottsdale Independent reports that police have arrested Ramon Angel Carrasco, 22, for his role in a crash that happened on Saturday, August 4th. He is currently being held on the charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Authorities say that officers responded to the two-vehicle crash that happened at approximately 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Williams Drive and Miller Road. Investigators say that Carrasco and a 22-yar-old female passenger were traveling northbound on Miller Road at an excessive rate of speed.
The second vehicle in the crash was being driven by a 68-year-old woman heading southbound on Miller Road. While attempting to make a left turn on to Williams Drive from Miller, Carrasco’s vehicle crashed into the second vehicle.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to take the elderly woman to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died as the result of injuries she suffered in the crash. Authorities have not yet released her name pending notification of family members.
Carrasco was treated for minor injuries while the injuries of his passenger were listed as serious. No further information has been released regarding her current condition.
Scottsdale police arrested Carrasco shortly after his release from the hospital on Wednesday, August 8th.
Eyewitnesses to the crash and an investigation at the accident scene both helped to determine that Carrasco was speeding and was likely racing another vehicle just before the fatal collision occurred.
