A domestic violence incident in Phoenix on Sunday has left one police officer dead and two additional officers injured.
ABC 15 in Phoenix reports that Phoenix Police Commander Greg Carnicle was shot and killed during the incident that took place in a North Valley neighborhood located near 43rd Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road on Sunday, March 29th.
Police received a call at the residence from roommates reporting that 22-year-old Jacob Emry Mcilveen was acting erratically. Police arrived at the house to remove Mcilveen from the residence when he shot and killed Commander Carnicle.
Also injured in the incident were officers Alicia Hubert and Marissa Dowhan. A spokesperson for Officer Dowhan told reporters in a statement that she had been hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to recover.
Officer Alicia Hubert was also shot, but she was treated at the hospital and later released.
The suspect, Mcilveen, was barricaded inside a nearby residence and was shot and killed by police later that night.
Police Commander Greg Carnicle, 56, served on the police force for 31 years through various departments, including the K9 and special assignments units. He was just a few months away from his retirement from the police force.
Commander Carnicle is survived by his wife and their four children.
On Tuesday, as Commander Carincle’s body was transported from the medical examiner’s office to a mortuary on 7th Street, police officers from several police departments, along with firefighters and community members stopped to honor the fallen offices.
We offer our deepest condolences to the members of Commander Carnicle’s family and his fellow officers at this time.
