Harambe Shot Dead at Cincinnati Zoo.
A gorilla was shot dead after a toddler fell into the gorilla’s habitat at the Cincinnati Zoo. According to multiple news stories, the toddler’s mother looked away for a short minute and during that time her toddler somehow got into the gorilla’s habitat.
The 17 year old gorilla named, Harambre, took a stance in front of the child for a few seconds before grabbing him by the foot and dragging him to the other side of the moat.
The Animal Response Team decided that shooting Harambe was the quickest way to keep the child safe.
A statement was released by the Cincinnati Zoo Director, “We are heartbroken about losing Harambe, but a child’s life was in danger and a quick decision had to be made by our Dangerous Animal Response Team.”
The 4 year old child was rushed to a nearby hospital and released that same evening.
